Spray Foam Trench Breakers
for Pipeline Projects

Faster than sandbags. Safer for your crew. Ready to backfill within the hour

Kool Foam has been installing polyurethane foam trench breakers and insulation pillows for pipeline contractors since 2012. We’ve worked projects ranging from small rural lines to a 150-mile natural gas pipeline. We travel up to 400 miles for the right job — Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and beyond.

What We Install

We specialize in two types of spray foam pipeline applications:
Pipeline Insulation in Oklahoma

Trench Breakers (Ditch Breakers)

Trench breakers are installed at regular intervals along the pipeline trench to stop water from channeling through the backfill, prevent erosion, and allow the contractor to backfill in sections. Kool Foam sprays closed-cell polyurethane foam directly in the trench — wrapping the pipe, bonding to the sidewalls, and extending above the crown. It cures fast and locks the pipe in place before your backfill crew moves in.

Insulation Pillows

For pipeline segments that need pipe support without full erosion control, we install foam insulation pillows — a foam bed sprayed under the pipe to cradle and protect it from the trench bottom. Fast to install, and eliminates hard-point contact that can damage pipe coatings over time.

Both applications are installed from ground level. Your crew stays out of the trench.

Why Pipeline Contractors Are Switching to Spray Foam

Sandbags have been the standard for decades. They also require hundreds of man-hours, multiple crew members in the trench, and still break down over time. Here’s what spray foam does differently:

We've Done This at Scale

In 2014, Kool Foam was brought in on the Southern Hills Pipeline — a line designed to transport up to 150,000 barrels of natural gas per day. The terrain was rocky and sandy, making traditional methods unworkable. Over 20 days and 150 miles, our crew installed spray foam trench breakers from ground level, keeping the project on schedule.
That project was featured in Spray Foam Magazine and established Kool Foam as one of the few contractors in the Midwest doing this work at scale.
We’ve since installed trench breakers for pipeline contractors across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas — for line sizes ranging from 4″ to 24″ and trench depths up to 6 feet and beyond.

Common Questions from Pipeline Contractors

Q: Can you work from ground level?

Yes. All of our trench breaker installations are performed from above the trench. We run up to 250 feet of hose from the rig, and our spray gun extension lets us hit the bottom of deep trenches without anyone climbing in.
In most conditions, foam is solid enough to begin backfilling within 15–30 minutes of installation. We’ll coordinate with your backfill crew directly.
We’ve worked with pipe ranging from 4″ to 24″ in diameter and trenches up to 6 feet deep and beyond. Give us the trench specs and we’ll tell you exactly what we need.
Trench breaker pricing is based on trench dimensions, pipe size, number of breakers, and travel. We don’t do one-size-fits-all rates — we quote per project. Call us with your specs and we can typically turn a quote around within 24 hours.
Yes. Kool Foam LLC is fully licensed and insured. We carry the documentation your project manager or GC will need.
That’s standard for us. We’ve worked alongside pipeline crews, backfill operators, and pipeline supers. We’re not the first foam contractor to show up on a job site and we know how to work in the flow of a project.

ABOUT YOUR PROJECT

Tell us your trench specs — pipe size, trench depth and width, number of breakers, and location — and we’ll get back to you fast. We’re not a call center. When you call Kool Foam, you’re talking to someone who has been on a pipeline job site.
